Soul Collage...Inside Art

Healing and Art 10/16/2008

This is a part of an article I wrote after I experienced several years of the transformative power of art...I believe that recovery and healing is relevant to each of us - there are specific situations and experiences that require attention, in our life. This call for healing seems to rise to the surface during times of transition, and allows each of us to choose whether to pay attention to our need/pain/experience, ignore it or just "gut through it". I gutted my way through years of playing victim/martyr in a marriage that wasn't working, in a life that wasn't feeding my soul and suffering from thinking I needed to fix many things that were not mine to fix. I had no connection with myself, or spirit or even a sense of purpose, I was drifting big time.

Here is another aspect of healing that I wrote about - Circumstances of unhappiness and difficulties are impact-ful, yet illness, addiction or disorder can also affect our life, either directly or indirectly. Illness can show itself in many ways, long term, chronic or short lived, and each will require various responses. These types of experiences are often traumatic - an illness may have lingering symptoms, memories or scars. Illness or traumatic experiences effect and impact many people, not only the sufferer. Healing, Recovery and the practice of Wellness (through art) are important to everyone in the circle of experience, and each individual  must choose to attend to their deep need, their pain, their truth and their experience, in order to discover, recover and heal.
Healing has a ripple effect and when one person attends to their need, that action is catching - Healing supports Healing...Take the time to consider what you have experienced, or continue to experience, which needs attention and healing.

These life experiences and the amazing changes that have occurred in my life, and all the changes I have witnessed over the years due to people engaging in experiential and transformative art...all kinds of art, painting, writing, knitting, collage, music, found-art, dance -whatever it is that changes ones life-path. These ideas of healing, healing inside-out (InsideArt) is why I am so passionate about the Inner Landscape...journeying inside/outside to discover all that is available...

This is a new feature, where I invite all of you to join in and participate. The power of sharing journey work, SoulCollage, art, process and discovery in a group or circle is very powerful...and I hope to give voice to some of our collective experiences here in a virtual circle. Welcome to all who know the open door, the closed gate, the vast universe, the deep river, the path, the dark forest and the bright meadow found within...and thank you for being part of this community. - Cat Meehan
